Moving Earth In AK

It was so awful to see the video of the earthquake in Anchorage, Alaska.

There was footage of a television station and courtroom taking a direct hit.

It's amazing to think that things have worked out this good and nobody has died.

Distracted By Dogs

Some drivers are too distracted while they operate a car. I can't believe some of the things people do.

While at a traffic light today, the driver next to me had their small dog on their lap between themselves and the steering wheel.

This had great potential to become a problem. Some drivers don't care about impacting others. They are a potential menace to everyone.

Late Night Delays

I'm glad I wasn't driving in Boston tonight. There was an enormous traffic jam going late into the night because of construction.

As a driver, you never know when you might come across it. In many instances, it grinds cars to a halt. It doesn't matter how late it is.

Don't Complain About The Rain

People waste so much time being frustrated with the weather. There is nothing you can ever do about it.

There has been a lot of rain around here in November. People complain about it, but it's better than the fires in California.

Why can't people be thankful?

No Way To Train

Traveling by Amtrak is a great way to go as long as there are no problems along the way. It doesn't take much to mess up a trip.

It happened yesterday on a Boston bound train from Penn Station. Minutes into the trip, the train lost power due to debris in the overhead wires.

All power was lost for almost six hours. It was a crazy scene with no working toilets.

The train finally arrived in Boston, but the passengers will never get those extra six hours back.

Time For A Slice

It's not easy to get a slice of pizza locally.

There is no guarantee that it will be ready when you walk in.

Slices can stay on the counter too long and not look good.

What do you do?

Fried Day

I had some deep fried turkey on Thanksgiving, but didn't notice any difference in the taste.

The texture of the skin was much different from one cooked in the oven. I don't eat skin, so I never tasted it.

From the videos I've seen on social media, it looks like it's an easy thing to mess up if you don't do it right. You can also cause a big fire.

The Best Days of Autumn 2018

The weather today was so much warmer than yesterday. It's all about the temperature.

It's hard to believe that we have 28 days until the start of winter.

We are in the twilight of autumn, in spite of the snow and cold.

Nov 22

November 22nd will always be known as the date President John F Kennedy was assassinated in 1963.

It's a lifetime ago. You would need to be at least 60 to remember that day.

It Might Be Very Cold

It will be interesting to see if the local temperatures on Thanksgiving Day are as bad as predicted.

This might be the coldest day on record according to the so-called experts. Their predictions have already impacted high school football games and road races.

This might never happen for another twenty years, but the weather will be a big factor tomorrow.

Hard To Picture

My new Mass ID/License arrived in the mail today. It looks quite sophisticated with all the technology incorporated into it.

No matter what, it seems like you can never get a good picture for your license. It was no exception for me.

It's always good to keep runing. I always thought I would be running faster at this point.

Plowing The Grass

This recent snow came so early. There are still so many leaves out there.

A sidewalk plow gouged up a huge patch of grass that had been planted about a month ago.

It happens every storm. Sidewalks can be hard to see at times. This one had a curve in it.

Another Day To Connect

It's another night of wondering why my internet connection is so slow. There is no competition where I live.

The choices are Comcast or my slow DSL modem through Verizon. I continue with my DSL.

I don't understand why we are at this point with connectivity. It should be so much better.

Five Weeks Until Winter

The first snow of the season certainly caused a lot of chaos and disruption. Amounts varied, but we got about four inches locally.

Some of the roads were not plowed. Sidewalks were pretty bad. There is now ice outside. That is always the first sign of winter, although it doesn't start for another five weeks.

Snowing In NYC

It was amazing to see 4 inches of snow on New York City streets by 6:30pm. It was so different out there tonight.

The city is very different when it snows.

Talking About Snow

Should we believe that we might get 1-3 inches of snow tomorrow after 7pm according to the weather experts?

It really sounds like we will have a lot of precipitation in some form. Any snow at this point would be a nuisance for rush hour traffic.

You can never predict the starting time of any storm.

Amazon Time

Amazon finally decided on its next HQ. They had so many cities around America begging them to come to their locale.

I think they made a great decision to locate them in Crystal City, Virginia and Long Island City in Queens.

Amazon played the game of getting the best tax break. They did a great job.

They should have a great impact on New York City. They need to be there.

People Whine Too Much

The wild fires in California continue to rage out of control. This is an annual story that never has a good ending.

Thousands of homes and other structures have been lost. The destruction is so devastating.

Around here, we might get up to three inches of rain tomorrow. Some people will complain about it on social media.

The world is full of people who whine too much. A little rain is nothing compared to those fires.

A Cold Day In 2018

It was so cold today at the UMass/BYU game.

The wind was really bad. It made all  the difference for fans trying to watch the game.

Leaves Not Down

Every year the leaves fall from the trees. It happens at a different rate. Some trees still have them.

It's only a matter of time before a wind storm brings more down.

That might happen tonight.

If Dogs Could Talk

Some people try to do too many things with their dog. I don't think it's a good idea for them to run with their owner on hard pavement or to go hiking up mountains.

A friend on Facebook recently posted pictures of his dog making it to the top of a 4,000 foot mountain in New Hampshire.

Today, the dog had ACL surgery. How long is their recovery process?

The dog must have been in pain before it was finally diagnosed. Unfortunately, a dog can never tell you how they feel physically.

Planned Outage

There was a planned power outage today in my neighborhood from 8am-10am as the electrical system gets upgraded. They gave us a week's notice to plan ahead.

I had to skip my toast for breakfast and have Syrian bread in its place. I didn't want to open my refrigerator too many times after getting milk and juice.

The power came on exactly as scheduled.

That Connection

I always try to write to this website. Sometimes, it's late at night.

We always assume that our internet connection will be fine, but that doesn't happen.

It has been very challenging tonight.

Those Additional Costs

I was in New York City the last four days. It's never cheap for anything, especially hotel rooms.

The price you see is never the final one. Taxes add on another 18%. Then there is the infamous resort fee which can be 15-20%.

There is no way around this. You either pay for it or stay home.
